THEATRE SKILLS

These three workshops are available for both GCSE and A Level groups, with more challenging content & activities for A Level groups

MAKING PERFORMANCE WITH

MOVEMENT

EXPLORE THE WAYS POWERFUL & EXCITING PERFORMANCE CAN BE MADE USING OUR BODIES & MOVEMENT.

AFTER A WARM UP, WE SPEND TIME DEVELOPING SKILLS, TOOLS, & IDEAS, THAT FACILITATE PHYSICAL CREATIVITY.

WE WORK OUT HOW MOVEMENT CAN TELL STORIES, HOW IT CAN FIT INTO BIGGER PIECES OF THEATRE OR STAND ALONE, & WHAT EFFECTS/AFFECTS IT CAN HAVE ON AN AUDIENCE.

No previous experience in dance or physical theatre is needed - we are able to adapt to mixed ability groups - We find that this way of working is new to most students.

APPLIED THEATRE

DISCOVER HOW & WHY THEATRE CAN BE (& IS) USED AS A SOCIAL INTERVENTION. WE LOOK AT WHAT APPLIED THEATRE IS, WHERE THIS EXCITING FIELD STARTED, & WHERE IT IS NOW.

THE WORKSHOP FOCUSES IN DEPTH ON ONE OF THREE THEMES:

- THEATRE & DRAMA IN EDUCATION

- POLITICAL THEATRE

- COMMUNITY THEATRE

AFTER ACTIVITIES EXPLORING THIS THEME, STUDENTS WORK IN GROUPS TO PLAN A PROJECT, FINALLY PITCHING THE IDEA WITH A GROUP Q & A.

This workshop uses games, drama, and creative activities to introduce an exciting, complex and growing field.

EXPLORING SITE SPECIFIC

 THEATRE

CREATE INNOVATIVE PIECES OF THEATRE IN INTERESTING PLACES. UNCOVER HOW RESPONDING TO DIFFERENT PLACES & SPACES CAN INFORM CREATIVE DEVISING PROCESSES.

THIS WORKSHOP USES FAMILIAR FOLK STORIES, FAIRY TALES, & MYTHS, AS SIMPLE STARTING POINTS TO CREATE IMAGINATIVE PIECES OF SITE SPECIFIC THEATRE.

WE EXPLORE THE PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS OF MAKING THIS KIND OF WORK IN THE REAL WORLD, AND THE CREATIVE PROCESSES THAT MAKE IT SO EXCITING AND WORTHWHILE, BEFORE DEVISING OUR OWN SHORT PIECES OF THEATRE.

This workshop uses core principles that can be adapted to any space.

All of our workshops are delivered by expert practitioners from the Pockets team, drawing from our own work as a theatre company, and from our work as individuals with other leading theatres and companies.

Workshops all come with a free education pack to extend the learning and explore how the skills developed can inform GCSE and A Level work.

All three workshops can be adapted to fit into your timetable and group sizes, and can take place in the school day or after.
