Wolfenden was the name of our R&D period for a new show in 2017, an exciting and vital piece of new theatre developed by Stuart Crowther with Pockets Theatre, marking 60 years of the Wolfenden report.
This report called for the decriminalisation of homosexuality, the first legal step toward LGBTQ+ equality in Britain. Wolfenden celebrated the achievements of the LGBTQ+ rights movement, explore the rich and sometimes messy diversity of this history, and open up questions about our shared identities and responsibilities. The aim of Wolfenden was to breathe fresh life into the testimonies of Yorkshire communities who lived, celebrated, protested, mourned and ultimately survived.
After a period of research and development in partnership with the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, and the Square Chapel, Halifax, we shared the work for an invited audience of third sector partners, stakeholders, community members, programmers, venues, contributors, local artists and community partners.
